Russia is the largest country in the world, extending to Europe and Asia. It is known for its historical cities, magnificent architecture, rich culture and breathtaking landscapes. Russia is a country with great contradiction and deep history from the Kremlin to Moscow to the frozen country of Siberia.

History

Ancient Russia (9th–13th Century) The first Russian state, Kievan Rus, was founded by Slavic and Viking rulers. Mongol Rule (13th–15th Century) The Mongols invaded and controlled Russia for over 200 years. During the Tsarist Era (1547–1917) Russia became a powerful empire under rulers like Ivan the Terrible and Peter the Great. The Soviet Union (1917–1991) After the Russian Revolution, the USSR was formed under Vladimir Lenin and later Joseph Stalin. It became a major world power.
